Biography

Alex Dabic is a Toronto-based contemporary representational artist and web designer. Deeply rooted in the traditions of the 17th century Dutch Masters, Dabic’s work captures the introspective vulnerability of the human figure against the remnants of various infrastructural strata. Trained in the traditions of both Classical and Contemporary realism, his technical versatility derives from a desire to unify the two, often combining expressive and refined brush work to create life-size, trompe l’oeil figures, suspended in moments of contemplation and self-reflection.
His background in fine art has also provided an invaluable foundation for his work as
a web designer, allowing him to execute everything from banner ads to responsive websites for a diverse range of clients.

Prior to receiving his BFA from York University in 2012, Dabic became the first recipient of the MacK Award for Figurative Realism, as well as two People’s Choice Portrait Awards. Having been exhibited throughout North America, his work has recently found a
place in several private and corporate
art collections, earning him two solo exhibitions, as well as contending spots
in numerous national and international painting competitions.
